In 1995 he began his independent career at the University of Notre Dame and rose to his current rank of Professor of Chemistry in 2004. Research interests include the use of synthetic and biosynthetic techniques to investigate the chemotherapeutic potential of polyketide natural products for rare diseases. Co-author of over 90 independent papers and mentored more than 40 graduate students including 30 Ph.D. graduates. Honors and awards include the NSF Early Career Award, an American Cancer Society Research Scholar Grant, the Eli Lilly Grantee Award, and several undergraduate teaching awards. In 2010, he was elected Fellow of the AAAS. In 2017, Taylor was the recipient of the Faculty Award for his lasting contributions to the University's academic life while enhancing our research profile.
