Michael Horn-von Hoegen is full professor in the department of physics at Duisburg-Essen University in Germany since 1999. He studied Physics at Hannover University, Germany. He received his PhD degree in 1988 and Habilitation degree in 1994 in experimental physics from Hannover University. From 1989 to 1990 he has worked as IBM Postdoc Fellow at the T.J. Watson Research Lab in Yorktown Heights, USA. From 2002 until 2013 he was scientific director of the collaborative research center SFB 616 "Energy Dissipation at Surfaces". His current research focuses on ultrafast phenomena on surfaces, with emphasis on structural dynamics of driven phase transitions, electron-phonon coupling, and nanoscale heat transport.
